Respect
When travelling to North Korea it is vital to make sure that you respect the country and its host, treat them the way you want to be treated. There are some main things you don’t need to talk about while visiting North Korea and they are, don’t make statements about the past and/or present leaders and try not to mention or make a joke about the way they run their country. There are so many other things that you can talk about that will keep the visitors and the country on equal terms.
The role of women
In North Korea it is widely accepted that men run the big jobs and women take on the smaller jobs, however women's status is not equal to that of men. It is a known fact that men will have a better chance at succeeding in jobs like politics or the military. On the other hand, if women worked in politics and then became married they are then seen as “done”and would no longer have that job. In North Korea, women are not supposed to wear trousers unless they are factory workers or farmers. In a professional setting, however, women are often equal to their male workers. The only occupation for a woman that behaviour is sometimes flirtatious is as a waitress, for women holding this position is an honour but they are usually selected for their beauty, respectable family background and educational qualification. For an Australian women make sure that you work and look professional, have a good attitude and in Korea make sure you respect the men.
